Coach Matt Krieger stepped into the coaching position during the 2017-2018 season as an Assistant Coach, under then Head Coach Nicole Barry, after swimming for Hickory Ridge High School (09-13), and Officiating High School meets on and off throughout the years in between. After the Head Coach position became available after the 2018-2019 season, Coach Matt was selected after discussion with the athletics department if he wanted the role. Since then, Coach Matt has continued his focus on finding ways to introduce further improvements to the program to benefit all swimmers on the team, and even extending this benefit to swimmers in the county. Improvements to the program have included adding more meets to the regular season schedule, getting athletics to purchase more shared equipment for practices, the purchase of a Swim and Dive Team Record Board, as well as a split effort to purchase a timing system for use at hosted meets at our home facilities.
Coach Matt also serves as the lead head swim coach for the Greater Metro 4A athletic conference, helping to create a fair initial schedule for all teams involved, as well as establishing standards which are agreed upon the conference for items such as all-conference selection, coach of the year, and when the conference championship meet is held.
Coach Matt is certified annually with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association to coach swimming and diving.
Coach Matt typically certifies each season as a North Carolina High School Athletic Association Swim Referee Official to further help the local swim community.
