Michael Caruso

Head Coach

Michael Caruso was named the Bears’ Director of Aquatics as well as the head coach for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs in the summer of 2011. Michael is a 2002 graduate of Bridgewater State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He also received a Master of Science of degree in Sports Management from Indiana State University in 2004. Michael captained the Bridgewater State men’s swimming and diving team both his junior and senior seasons and was selected as the Bridgewater State Lee Harrington Unsung Hero Award winner for the 2000-2001 academic year. Prior to returning to BSU, Michael spent six seasons from 2002 to 2008 as the head swimming and diving coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, and three years as the head swimming coach in the Town of Concord (Massachusetts) recreation program (Concord Otters). While at Rose-Hulman, Michael coached two Division III All-Americans and two honorable mention All-Americans. One of his swimmers, Matt Smith, won the national championship in the 100 breaststroke during the 2002-2003 season. In each of his six seasons with the Fightin’ Engineers, Michael had at least one student-athlete provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. He was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Swim Coach of the Year for the 2007-2008 campaign. At Bridgewater State, Michael has coached 1 NCAA Division III Championship Qualifier (Richard Smith 2018), 1 NCAA Honorable All-American (Richard Smith 2018, 200 Breaststroke), 2 NCAA "Provisional" Cuts (Richard Smith 2017 & 2018), 8 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Individual Champions, 1 NEISDA Relay Champion, 78 NEISDA All-Conference Swimmers & Divers, two individual Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifiers (Philip Tully 2012 & Jameson Rose 2016), one ECAC Relay Qualifier 200 Medley Relay (Rose, Ford, McDougall, Medina 2016), and has overseen 39 BSU individual swimming & diving records as well as 2 NEISDA Individual Records since 2011. Also under Coach Caruso's watch the BSU the swimming & diving program earned a Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) Academic All-American Award (Sullivan Cohen 2013, Third Team). Michael is a level four certified coach by the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA). In 2003, he was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the ASCA for his outstanding coaching performance at Rose-Hulman, for the 2015-2016 season at BSU Mike was named the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) President. Michael presently resides in Weymouth, Massachusetts with his son Conrad, and his wife, Shannon.

Nicole Moneghan joined the Bridgewater State swimming & diving coaching staff in October of 2021. Nicole is a 2019 graduate of Bridgewater State where she earned a degree in education. Nicole was a four-year member of the BSU women's swimming & diving team from 2015 to 2019. She was a four-time MASCAC All-Academic Team selection as well as a Spring 2019 NEISDA All-Academic honoree. Nicole also captained the Bears both her junior and senior seasons. A native of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Nicole is presently a teacher at North Quincy High School where she was recently hired.
Charlie MacDonald

Charlie MacDonald

Volunteer Assistant Coach

Charlie is in his 6th season working on the BSU Swimming & Diving program staff and currently serves as Volunteer Assistant, focusing mainly on Operations and Recruiting. Charlie is a 2015 graduate of Bridgewater State University, where he swam for 4 seasons, serving his junior and senior years as Captain of the Men's team. Charlie also served as President of the BSU Athletics Captain's Council his senior year. Charlie was the 2015 recipient of the Lee Harrington Unsung Hero Award at the BSU Athletics Banquet. Charlie joined the Swim & Dive staff at BSU during the 2015-2016 season, serving as an Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach. After that season, he spent time as an Assistant Coach at Tufts University and Head Coach at Cedar Crest College. At Cedar Crest, Charlie was named the 2018 and 2019 NEAC (North East Athletic Conference) Women's Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. Charlie also worked to complete his Master's Degree, also from Bridgewater, during this time, which he finished in 2021. Both of his degrees are in Physical Education and Athletic Coaching. Charlie rejoined the BSU Swim & Dive staff during the 2019-2020 season as an Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach on a volunteer basis. He worked as a Teacher and Athletic Director at different small elementary/middle schools during this time. He was on the coaching staff during the 2021-2022 season when the Men's program won the 2022 LEC Championship. The first championship in the program's history. Charlie accepted his current position as a Science Teacher and Associate Head Swimming Coach at Dexter Southfield School during the summer of 2022. He then started his new role as an Aquatics/Swimming & Diving Operations Assistant at Bridgewater State, where he works on the program's social media, recruiting, team events, and does some coaching.
Katie Rogier

Katie Rogier

Volunteer Assistant Coach

Katie joined the BSU Swim & Dive staff in October of 2022. Katie is a 2018 graduate of Bridgewater with Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Secondary Education (5-8). She went on to receive her Masters in Teaching (MAT) from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2022. Katie was a four-year member of the Swim & Dive Team from 2014 to 2018 where she served as a peer mentor for three years and the women's team SAAC representative for one year. Katie was awarded the Michelle Calverley Award for the 2014-2015 season. Prior to returning to BSU, Katie served as the Head Coach for Swimming and the Assistant Coach for Track & Field at Bishop Connolly High School in Fall River. Katie currently resides in Mattapoisett and is employed as a math teacher at Ford Middle School in Acushnet.
