Messiah Women, Albright Men Lead After Day 3 at Middle Atlantic Conference Champs

YORK, Pa. – The third day of the 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships were completed on Friday at the Graham Aquatic Center.
 
Through 12 events, Messiah remains on top with 434 points. Widener is in second with 399 points, Arcadia is in third with 367.5 points, Stevenson is fourth with 244 points and Albright is fifth with 214 points.
 
Albright leads the men’s standings with 391 points. Widener is in second with 378 points, Arcadia is in third with 352 points, Misericordia is in fourth with 222 points and King’s and Messiah are tied for fifth with 212 points.

200-YARD FREESTYLE RELAY
Women
Messiah’s Cassie Cotton, Emily Reale, Tara Freeman and Katie Wingert won gold with a time of 1:36.92, just shy of the Falcons’ 2016 record time of 1:36.29. Widener won silver with a time of 1:37.81, and Arcadia took bronze with a time of 1:39.50.
 
Men
Widener’s Ian Gaynor, Tom Platt, Martin Bohdan and AJ Green won gold with a championship record time of 1:22.85, bettering the Pride’s 2016 record time of 1:23.81. Arcadia took silver with a time of 1:25.98, and King’s won bronze in a time of 1:26.50.
 
 
400-YARD INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY (IM) 
Women
King’s Kirsten Siwy won gold with a time of 4:39.55. Arcadia’s Megan Obarowski took silver in a time of 4:42.55, and Messiah’s Emily Reale took bronze in a time of 4:42.53. Reale won the event in 2016.
 
Men
Albright’s Ken Richardson won gold in a time of 4:08.89 after making the final turn in third-place. Misericordia’s Thomas Scott took silver in a time of 4:09.87, an Arcadia’s Eric Lam won bronze with a time of 4:10.23.
 
 
100-YARD BUTTERFLY
Women
Messiah’s Cassie Cotton won gold with a time of 57.43 seconds. Widener’s Jill Bujanowski took silver in a time of 58.13 seconds, and Albright’s Ashlyn Chermol won bronze in a time of 58.77 seconds.
 
Men
Widener’s AJ Green won gold for second-straight season with a time of 51.28 seconds. Lebanon Valley’s Ian Lloyd took silver in a time of 51.67 seconds, and Arcadia’s Tristan Highet took bronze in a time of 52.37 seconds.
 
 
200-YARD FREESTYLE 
Women
Messiah’s Katie Wingert wins third-straight gold and for the second-straight year sets the MAC Championship record with a time of 1:53.20. Wingert’s previous record time from 2016 was 1:54.07. Arcadia’s Megan Hupp took silver in a time of 1:55.07, and Widener’s Melaney Heald took bronze in a time of 1:55.72.
 
Men
Widener’s Martin Bohdan won gold with a MAC Championship record time of 1:41.47, bettering three-time MAC 200 freestyle champion Ian Gaynor’s 2016 record time of 1:42.02. Messiah’s Drew Wolfe took silver in a time of 1:42.92, and Misericordia’s Joe Grzech took bronze in a time of 1:43.93.
 
 
100-YARD BREASTSTROKE
Women
Misericordia’s Grace Nikolski won gold in a time of 1:06.09. Stevenson’s Juli Burnett won silver in a time of 1:07.33, and Arcadia’s Samantha Carpenter took bronze in a time of 1:07.40. Carpenter won gold in 2016 as a freshman.
 
Men
Albright’s Tyler Chamberlin repeats as gold medalist with a time of 57.71 seconds. In prelims, Chamberlin swam an NCAA provisional time of 56.79 seconds. His time was .01 seconds off the MAC Championship record time 56.78 seconds set in 2011 by Misericordia’s Jeff Clark. Hood’s BJ Daisey took silver in a time of 58.66 seconds, and Lycoming’s Devyn Goda took bronze in a time of 58.68 seconds.
 
 
100-YARD BACKSTROKE
Women
Stevenson’s Colby Stein won the program’s first-ever conference championship gold medal with a time of 58.69 seconds. Teammate Melanie Milam took silver in a time of 59.18 seconds, and 2016 champion Joelle Williamson of Messiah too bronze in a time of 1:00.18.
 
Men
Widener’s AJ Green won gold for a second-straight year with a time of 51.46 seconds. Lycoming’s Callan Jordan took silver in a time of 52.24 seconds, and Misericordia’s Joe Grzech took bronze in a time of 52.31 seconds.
