Yale Downs 2 Ivy League Relay Records On Night 1

Yale continued its relay dominance in opening night action at the 2017 Ivy League Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, bettering its championship meet records in the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Bulldogs swept the five relay events in 2016.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Yale shaved 2.30 seconds off its qualifying time and more than a second off its championship meet record time of 1:39.06 from last year, finishing in 1:37.71. Brown also bested the previous championship meet record with a time of 1:38.73 in a runner-up finish.

Harvard touched the wall in third place (1:39.68), followed by Princeton (1:40.24), Columbia (1:40.72), Penn (1:41.02), Cornell (1:41.91) and Dartmouth (1:44.95).

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Yale dropped 12.28 seconds off its qualifying time and more than six seconds off its championship meet record time of 7:12.44, touching the wall in 7:06.35. Harvard also bettered the previous championship meet record with a time of 7:08.37 as the event runner-up.

Princeton placed third (7:13.00), ahead of Brown (7:14.26), Columbia (7:18.84), Cornell (7:26.26) and Dartmouth (7:28.88). Penn was disqualified from the night's final event.

Following two events, Yale leads the pack with 128 points and is followed closely by Harvard (110), Brown (108) and Princeton (106). Columbia (100), Cornell (94), Dartmouth (90) and Penn (48) round out the eight-team field.
