Texas A&M Men Down Indian River

The No. 20 Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team swept the day’s events in a 150-84 win over perennial junior college swimming power Indian River State College on Thursday.
 
The Aggies improved to 3-0 in dual meet action this season and will get a chance to improve that record on Saturday when they take on Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. The Aggies swept the top three spots in seven of the 11 individual events.
 
Texas A&M opened and closed the day with strong performances from its relays. The Aggies got out to a quick start with a win in the 400-yard medley relay when the foursome of sophomore Brock Bonetti, sophomore Mauro Castillo, freshman Mateo Gonzalez and junior Jacob Gonzales touched the wall in a 3:20.22. A&M closed out the meet with the quartet of Gonzales, sophomore Justin Morey, junior Turker Ayar and redshirt freshman Steven Richardson winning the 200 free relay in 1:23.30.
 
Individually, the Aggies were led by Gonzales and Castillo, who both won multiple races. Gonzales swept the 50 free (20.96) and the 100 free (45.84), while Castillo won the 100 breast (56.00) and 100 butterfly (50.15).
 
Also grabbing individual victories were senior Mateo Muzek in the 1,000 free (9:20.04), senior Hunter Funk in the 200 free (1:41.61), sophomore transfer Austin Van Overdam in the 200 IM (1:52.47), freshman Sam Thornton in the one-meter dive (315.82), senior Alexandros Theocharidis in the 100 back (50.42), freshman Angel Martinez in the 500 free (4:37.93) and freshman Skylar Lake in the three-meter dive (346.12).
