Tiffin Sweeps Alma, Women Top Ursuline

Tiffin University enjoyed its home opener against Alma College and Ursuline College, with the men defeating Alma 99-38 and the women beating Alma 84-48 and Ursuline 103-19.

There were numerous wiinners in the 32 events as Tiffin dominated the competition. For the women, the 200 medley relay team of Karolina Siwiec, Melinda Ulbrecht, Mari Johnson, and Alexandria Schuttinger won in 1:52.80, while Alexandria Lehman won the first of three individual events on the day in the 1000 freestyle by nearly 25 seconds (11:15.90). She also had wins in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.81 (winning by .02) and the 200 IM in 2:21.83.

Anastasiia Kvitchenko also won three events, placing first in the 200 freestyle (1:59.86), the 200 butterfly (2:10.39), and the 100 butterfly (59.73). Siwiec also got a victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.10 while finishing second in the 500 freestyle and the 200 backstroke. Schuttinger picked up victories in the 100 freestyle in 56.06 and the 50 freestyle in 25.28.

The team of Kvitchenko, Johnson, Lehman, and Schuttinger also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.02, while Morgan Dunleavy picked up an NCAA B cut score on the 1 meter board (261.10) while also winning the 3 meter (193.95) diving event. Ulbrecht was also second in the 100 breaststroke.

For the men, Ty Collins won the 100 backstroke in 56.26 as well as the 200 backstroke in 2:03.79 while taking second in the 200 IM. Pedro Van Isschot eked out a win in the 50 freestyle by .24 (22.19) while also winning the 100 freestyle in 48.85.

Other winners for TU included Garrett Arnsparger in the 1000 freestyle (10:46.95), Matthew Campbell in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.56), Anthony Modica in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.28), and Rudolph Afzal in the 1 meter (194.05) and 3 meter (196.75) events.

The 200 medley relay team of Collins, Van Isschot, Kody Doss, and Ygor Zanardo Bortolato won in 1:41.23, while the 200 freestyle relay squad of Bortolato, Doss, Lucas Merigue Bernardo, and Van Isschot also won in 1:29.25.
Bortolato posted a win in the 500 freestyle in 4:59.36 while also taking second in the 200 freestyle. Logan Brutcher was second in the 200 butterfly, and Doss was also second in the 100 butterfly.

"I was very pleased with the way we competed today," said Head Coach Margarita Kalmikova. "Back to back meets are hard not only physically but also mentally. Weekends like this will help us prepare for the GLIAC Championship. The team made a lot of improvements in their races today. I was very happy to see that. And Morgan getting her NCAA B cut in the 1 meter board was just icing on the cake."
