Bucknell Invite Recaps - Day 3

Delaware

After three days of competition, the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving team each finished in seventh place at the Bucknell Invitational. The women’s team accrued a point total of 683 while the men’s squad tallied 519 points.

The UD women’s team’s performance Sunday was highlighted by a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Brittany Lazear, Dominique Montoya, Alyssa Sanders, and Morgan Whyte touched first with a time of 3:24.90.

Blue Hen divers Kristina Congdon and Caitlin Stockwell recorded solid results for Delaware in the final day of competition. Congdon finished in third in the 3 – meter diving competition with a score of 286.40 while Stockwell finished just ahead of Congdon as the junior registered a second place finish with a score of 286.45.

The top finish on the men’s side was in the 400 freestyle relay race. The Blue Hen team comprised of Alex Hillsley, Tomás Elder, Everett Albert, and Nicholas Badsky finished in eighth place with a time of 3:08.58.

Badsky finished in 10th place in the 100 freestyle while Tim Ware posted the best individual result with a ninth place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.38.

In total, the men’s and women’s teams compiled four winning performances and registered eight top-three finishes during the three-day competition.

Bucknell won the women’s meet with a score of 1,631, while Yale was victorious in the men’s competition with a score of 1,762.

The next event the UD swimmers will take part in is the USS Short Course Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. The three-day event will begin Dec. 4.

 

Vermont

The Vermont women's swimming and diving team claimed sixth place at the nine-team Bucknell Invitational after wrapping up the final day of competition Sunday night. 

Bucknell won the invitational, collecting 1631 points during the three-day event. Fordham (1097.5 pts.) and Georgetown (861) rounded out the top three, while Towson (738), La Salle (729.5) and Vermont (690) claimed the next three spots. Delaware (683), Binghamton (486) and Susquehanna (38) occupied the final three spots.

The Catamounts broke a total of 11 program records during the three days, which included setting six new marks on Saturday.

On Sunday night, Cowley set new UVM varsity and freshmen records in the 200 breast, clocking in at 2:19.90 for a ninth-place finish. The rookie broke the program records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in back-to-back nights at the invitational.

Ilsa Feierabend and Elena Melloni paced the Catamounts in the 200 back. Feierabend registered a time of 2:02.72 for a seventh-place showing, and Melloni claimed the 13th spot in 2:04.48.

Katie Adams (52.42) and Andie Blaser (51.84) registered Vermont's top two times in the 100 free, posting eighth and ninth-place showings, respectively.

In the final event of the night, the Catamounts 'A' relay squad made up of Blaser, Courtney Gray, Sarah Mantz and Katie Adams finished sixth with a time of 3:29.97.

The Catamounts are off from competition for the rest of the year before returning to action on January 17, 2015 in Boston against Northeastern.
