St. Mary's (Md.) Women Fall to Mary Washington

The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team traveled to the University of Mary Washington for their fourth Capital Athletic Conference meet of the season. St. Mary's (6-6, 3-1 CAC) dropped its first conference meet of the season by a 132-72 decision to the Eagles (6-1, 3-0 CAC).

Sophomore Cara Machlin (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) captured the 200 butterfly in 2:16.74 while junior Hannah Hafey (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) claimed the top honor in the 200 backstroke in 2:17.06.

Junior Elaina Kohles (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) led the Seahawks to a 1-2 finish in the 500 freestyle, winning the event in 5:26.76, while sophomore Zoe McIlmail (Frederick, Md./Urbana) came in second in 5:28.31.

Hafey, senior captain Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), junior captain Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford), and McIlmail took second in the 200 medley relay in 1:56.48.

Kohles picked up a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 11:12.86 while St. Mary's went 2-3-4 in the 200 freestyle. McIlmail placed second in 2:01.96, just 11 hundredths of a second out of first, while Machlin was third (2:02.55) and Raab fourth (2:04.88).

O'Connor paced the team in the 200 individual medley with a second-place finish in 2:17.26 as well as a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.26.

Senior captain Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) finished third in the 50 freestyle in 26.73 and fourth in the 100 freestyle in 58.87.

The foursome of Hafey, Machlin, Kohles, and junior Kelsey Abernathy (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) placed third in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.28.

St. Mary's will be back in the pool on Saturday, February 1st when the Seahawks welcome Salisbury University to the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center for the regular-season finale at 1:00 p.m.
