Emory & Henry College Head Coach Aug. 2023 - Current WVU Tech Head Coach Aug. 2019 - Jul. 2023 Wasps head coach Will Hughes enters his first season at Emory & Henry College (NCAA DII) this Fall 2023. Prior to coming to E & H, Hughes served as head coach of WVU Tech Swimming (NAIA) for four years. His time there posted four consecutive successful seasons with the Golden Bears, improving their rankings in the NAIA and the AAC (Appalachian Athletic Conference) Championships. In 2019-20, Hughes coached Paulo Ignacio, Jr., the National Champion in the Men's 100 Breaststroke (54.00) and National Swim of the Meet, Manuel Laguna Gomez, 5th place finish in the Men's 1650 and AAC Swimmer of the Meet. The men's team posted a 4th place finish at the AAC Championships, setting 3 new conference records. In 2020-21, Hughes coached 3 NAIA All-Americans (Guillermo Usechi, Pau Eslava, & Refiloe Mashao). The 2021-22 season yielded more success for Hughes with his teams finishing 3rd place (Men) and 4th place (Women) in the AAC. Hughes also was awarded AAC Women's Coach of the Year honors. In addition, Hughes coached Donat Fabian who earned AAC Swimmer of the Meet honors and set a new Men's 50 Free Record. Fabian also recorded two 3rd place finishes at the NAIA National Championships (Men's 50 Free, 20.25). The men's team concluded the AAC with a 2nd place finish and the women a 3rd place finish. 2022-23 presented more improvements as both teams finished the AAC in 2nd place. Hughes coached 3 swimmers who made the national invite under the new NAIA format (Guillermo Usechi, Samantha Pepevnik, and Ana Noguera Munoz). Hughes is looking forward to his first season as head coach of the Wasps. The team has a lot of potential and enormous amounts of talent.
