Bert Bergen

Head Coach

Coach Bergen begins his fourth season at the helm of the Eagles in the fall of 2022. The men won their 2nd PCSC Championship in four seasons in 21-22 and have not finished lower than 2nd in any of those four seasons. The women earned a 6th place finish (of 15) in 2022 with an individual PCSC champion and two school records on the season. The Eagles have now earned 19 NCAA D2 qualifying times and 25 CSCAA Academic All-Americans since 2018 to go with their 24 PCSC individual and relay titles. In the classroom, both programs have earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team status for the last six semesters with the peak being 3rd place finishes in NCAA D2 in the fall of 2019. Each side has recorded three top-10 finishes since 2019. Recruiting continues to be healthy as 18 new Eagles from seven states will suit up in the fall of 2022 joining a strong crew of 33 returners. This dynamic group includes section and state HS champions, Junior and Senior Nationals and Futures qualifiers. Combined with the strong senior leadership in place, this team will be competitive every time it gets to the blocks. Coach Bergen is an ASCA Level 3 coach, an active member of the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) and has attended many regional and national coaches clinics since 2004. He was a 7-time NCAA All-American at Chico State and was a multiple national and world record holder at the master's level for a dozen years after completing his collegiate eligibility. The goals at Concordia University-Irvine are to bring in dedicated student-athletes who seek to thrive in a small Christian school environment. We will pursue conference titles, top-10 finishes at NCAAs and in the CSCAA Academic team standings and we will always make every effort to support each student-athlete balance their academic and athletic goals with their social and personal responsibilities. Nothing is more important than creating a community where everyone feels connected, a part of something healthy and vibrant and a place where they can explore their faith. #swimforHIM
