Kyllian Griffin

Head Coach

Kyllian Griffin became head coach of Macalester's men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs in the fall of 2018. He has spent the past four years as the head swim and dive coach and aquatics director at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill. During Griffin’s time at IIT, his athletes have broken 13 school records, won 10 Liberal Arts Conference individual championships, received 38 All-Championship honors and posted four NCAA-qualifying B standard performances. He was also responsible for managing the college’s aquatics facility. Prior to coaching at IIT, Griffin was an assistant coach at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., for two years. He also spent two years as an assistant coach at Lawrence University, as well as one year as an assistant at Beloit College. A 2009 graduate of Lawrence, Griffin was a captain and two-time Midwest Conference champion for the Vikings’ swim team. An English major at Lawrence, Griffin went on to earn a Master’s of Education degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in 2013. “I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to join the community at Macalester College,” Griffin said. “The swimming and diving program has strong traditions and great potential, and I am very excited to begin building and growing the team for the future. The student-athletes at Mac are passionate and driven, and I look forward to working alongside them to have the best academic and athletic experiences possible."

Spencer Brady

Diving Coach

Spencer Brady became the diving coach at Macalester in the fall of 2023. A 2022 graduate of Hamline, Brady was a four-year member of the diving team and served as the Pipers’ captain as a senior. She received the Coaches Award as a sophomore and the Most Inspirational Award as a senior. Before coaching at Macalester, Brady served as an assistant coach for NSAC Swim Team for a year and coached the SPARKS Diving Team for one season.
Wilson Josephson

Wilson Josephson

Assistant Coach

Wilson Josephson has coached at Macalester since 2017, working as an assistant for the college's varsity program and the head coach of the masters team. Since 2020, he has also served on the US Masters Swimming national Coaches Committee and the USMS Diversity and Inclusion committee. Prior to his time at Mac, Josephson was a lead coach for the Edina Swim Club's age group program and the head coach of the Concord Blue Dolphins. In his role at Macalester, Josephson is an advisor to the Student Athlete Mentors, a group of leaders from every varsity athletics program that work to connect their peers with resources for support on campus. SAMs also champion and provide logistical support for other Scots LEAD programs and affinity groups. As a student-athlete at Carleton College ('16), Josephson was a two-time MIAC champion in the 200 freestyle relay and an Academic All-American (honorable mention).
Sophie Pilhofer

Sophie Pilhofer

Assistant Coach

Sophie Pilhofer, a Minnesota native, joined the Macalester coaching staff as an assistant swimming coach in the fall of 2018. She is a 2013 graduate of Carleton College, where she majored in Political Science and International Relations while swimming for the Knights. During her college swimming career, Pilhofer was a captain, an 11-time All-MIAC swimmer and an All-American. After college, Pilhofer went on to get her Master's degree in Public Policy. She now works as a program evaluator for the Minneapolis Public School District.
