Head Coach

Meg Sisson French begins her fifth season as the Mary Frances Wagley, `47 men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach/physical education and wellness instructor in 2023-24. She came to MIT from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and was named to her position on August 9, 2019. MIT continued their success during the 22-23 season as both teams once again captured the NEWMAC Championships with the women winning their 12th-straight title and the men capturing their 14th-straight championship to mark the 12th time the Engineers have swept NEWMAC Championship. Both teams swept their respective awards (Swimmer, Rookie, and Diver of the Year) for the first time in program history. The men’s program had also swept all three major awards during the 2016-17 season.The women’s team won 18 events and set five NEWMAC Open records at the event. The men’s team captured 16 event victories and the 200-medley relay team set new NEWMAC Record time in the event. The Engineers sent 26 athletes to the NCAA Championships which saw both team’s finish in the top-10 (men - 5th, women - 8th). MIT had three individual runner-up finishes (Jaden Luo - 200 IM, Adam Janicki - 200 Back, Kate Augustyn – 200 Back) and the men’s 200 and 400 medley-relay teams also grabbed a second-place finish at Nationals. Roderick Huang became the first student-athlete from the men’s program to win the NCAA’s prestigious Elite 90 Award as the program had a combined 61 All-America honors. Overall, the team set 15 school records (Eight women, Seven men). The Engineers returned to action in the 2021-22 seasons, and both the men's and women's teams claimed the NEWMAC Championships.It was the 11th-consecutive title for the women's and the 13th for the men. At NCAAs, Both teams claimed National Championships with Edenna Chen winning the 100-Breast and Tobe Obochi claiming the 100-Free. The men's 200 and 400-free relay teams also claimed National Championships and overall the women finished 8th and the men finished 6th as the program's recorded 57 NCAA All-America honors. The Engineers broke 20 varsity school records (11 men's, 10 women's). While MIT did not compete during the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19, MIT had a program-record three student-athletes (Edenna Chen ‘23, James Richardson ‘23, and Sam Ubellacker ‘20) qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. The meet was subsequently moved to 2021 following the postponement of the Olympic Games, and all three MIT student-athletes were able to compete the following summer. Sisson French guided both the men's and women's swimming and diving programs to conference championships in her first season, marking the women’s 10th consecutive title and the men’s 12th consecutive title, and was named as the 2019-20 NEWMAC Men's and Women's Swimming Coach of the Year. Four of her student-athletes also picked up major awards from the league that season. While the team was not able to compete at the 2020 NCAA Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Engineers had 27 qualifiers for the 2020 Championships and would have been the fourth-largest team represented at the meet. At Pomona-Pitzer, Sisson French served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator from 2017-2019, as well as the assistant coach from 2015-17. In addition, she was the interim head coach in the fall semester of 2016 and has been the summer swim director at Pomona College from 2016 to present. In her role as the associate head coach, Sisson French assisted in coaching five SCIAC Conference Championship teams and had three teams post top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship. She initiated and organized the recruiting process for the men’s and women’s teams while also instructing undergraduate level physical education at Pomona College and faculty and staff wellness classes. She began her collegiate coaching career at Springfield College as a volunteer assistant coach in the 2012-13 season and as a graduate assistant at Springfield from 2013-2015. Earning her Master of Social Work in 2015, Sisson French also graduated with her Bachelor of Science in applied sociology from Springfield in 2012 and was a four-year member of the women’s swimming and diving team that captured the 2009 and 2010 NEWMAC Championships.

AJ Green

Assistant Coach

Aaron Green begins his first season as the assistant coach for the MIT men's and women's swimming and diving program in 2023-24, as well as serving as a communications, promotions and marketing assistant. He came to MIT from Arcadia University (Pa.), where he served as the men’s and women’s swimming head coach and aquatics director since April 2022. In the 2022-23 season, Green guided the Knights to a runner-up finish on the men’s side at the MAC Championship, along with a fourth-place finish by the women’s squad. The women’s team earned 12 All-Conference selections, while the men’s team had 20 student-athletes recognized as All-Conference performers. Prior to his time at Arcadia, Green was the head coach at Hollins University in 2021-22 and had previously served as a graduate assistant for two years at the University of Lynchburg. At Lynchburg, the coaching staff was honored as the ODAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2021 after leading the women’s team to a conference title and the men’s program to a runner-up finish. A 2019 undergraduate of Widener University, Green graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications studies: public relations, advertising and marketing. As a student-athlete at Widener, he was the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year, the three-time Middle Atlantic Conference Male Swimmer of the Year and the 2019 Widener University Male Athlete of the Year. Green went on to earn his Masters in higher education leadership from the University of Lynchburg in 2021.
