East Carolina Wins 700th Program Victory

East Carolina collected its 700th program victory on Saturday with a sweep against Campbell and Catawba.

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina swimming and diving program earned its 700th victory Saturday as it swept a tri-meet with Campbell and Catawba to record its first wins of the season.

The Pirate men's team defeated Catawba 175-78, while the women's squad posted a 157-109 win over Campbell and a 150-95 triumph over Catawba to give the program 701 all-time victories.

"Seven-hundred wins is a testament to how great East Carolina Swimming and Diving has been for the last 63 years," 35th-year ECU Head Coach Rick Kobe said. "I feel honored to be part of over 500 of them. It's an honor all our coaches and student-athletes, past and present, share."

ECU collected 12 first-place finishes in the men's meet with Catawba with Boleck DePawlikowski, Victor Santos and Tristan Taylor each winning two events. DePawlikowski edged teammate Manuel Alvarez by 1.83 seconds in the 1000 freestyle and touched 0.43 ahead of Esteban Araya in the 400 IM.

Taylor was a dual meet winner in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke, edging freshman Grega Popovich by 0.37 in the 200 free and finishing 0.54 ahead of senior Fran Krznaric, who had won the 100 backstroke earlier, in the 200 back. Santos recorded victory in the 50 freestyle by 0.26 in front of Erle Craven before winning the 100 butterfly by 0.91 over Blaz Demsar.

Will Hicks (100 breaststroke), Maxime Cadiat (100 freestyle), Demsar (200 butterfly) and Craven (200 breaststroke) each won an event as ECU swept the top-3 places in four races and finished first and second in six additional contests.

On the women's side, junior Julie Lajoie set the Minges Natatorium record in the 400 IM and won the 200 butterfly. Her record time of 4:25.03 in the 400 IM was more than eight second better than second-place finished Yara Fakhry. She was also more than three seconds faster than the runner-up in the 200 butterfly.

Logan Graumann was another ECU multi-event winner, claiming victory in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke. She also swam the lead leg in for the winning 200 freestyle relay team that included Erin Polich, Anna Svanbergsson and Tori Angermeier.

Marion Abert and Vendela Norrman were triumphant in multi-event as well. Abert won the 200 and 500 freestyle, while Norrman swept the breaststroke events, touching first in the 100 and 200. Svanbergsson touched first in the 100 freestyle and Taylor Hague was ahead of the field in the 200 backstroke.

The Pirates also hosted Clemson and UNCW in a diving meet. ECU redshirt junior Alicia Roueche finished second in the women's 3-meter competition with a NCAA Regional Zone qualifying score of 282.10. She was also the team's top finisher on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 201.10. Matt Mullen swept the men's diving events, posting the highest scores in the 1 and 3-meter competitions.

East Carolina will return to action Nov. 5-6 at the CAA Pod Meet in Harrisonburg, Va. The participants include Delaware, James Madison, UNCW and William & Mary.

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Catawba swim teams swam against host East Carolina along with the Campbell women on Saturday afternoon at the Minges Natatorium. Mario Zaninovic had a top 10 all-time swim in the men's 1000 free, while Marcia-Mariel Erhart had a top 20 time in the women's 1000 free.

Zaninovic posted a time of 9:48.71 in his 1000 free and placed third. The time was the sixth fastest in school history. Erhart touched in a time of 10:51.98 to mark the 16th fastest time for a Catawba swimmer.

Also for the men, Zaninovic had a win in the 400 IM (4:16.25) with Michael King first in the 100 fly (54.81). John Barreto was second in the 100 free (47.13) and Frederico Borrego Higareda third in the 200 breast (2:08.05). Ali Hegazi took thirds in the 200 free (1:44.60) and 500 free (4:51.87), while Dominik Brus was third in the 100 back (53.48).

Catawba will next swim in the Wingate Quad Meet on November 4th and 5th.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Caroline Clark and Geena Squartino both secured wins in a Saturday split with East Carolina and Catawba. The Camels topped Catawba 218-26 while falling to host ECU 157-109.

The Pirates also defeated Catawba 150-95.

Campbell moves to 3-2 on the season with the split.

Clark claimed the 100 fly with a time of 57.13, also topping the 400 IM with a 4:39.93 mark. Clark also took third in the 200 fly with a 2:09.57.

Squartino posted the top time in the 1000 free with a 10:34.85 mark. Megan Shoemaker took runner-up with a time of 10:40.53. Squartino also placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:14.10

Campbell won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.42 to start the day.

Michelle Case added a runner-up finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.39. Camels took second and third in the 200 backstroke with Karah Sizemore (2:09.29) and Kelsey Tunstall (2:09.81). CU rounded out the meet with a 1:38.40 in the 200 free relay.

Megan Everritt also took third in the 100 backstroke with a 59.51. Taylor McMinn also tallied a 1:08.37 in the 100 breaststroke for another third place finish.

The Camels return home next weekend, hosting Georgia Southern (Friday, October 28) and UNC Pembroke (Saturday, October 29).
